The Shoalhaven and Kangaroo Rivers

The Shoalhaven & Kangaroo Rivers

Picturesque waterways

The Shoalhaven River has its source in rugged terrain in Bendethera within the Deua National Park. It then flows for approximately 300 kilometres predominantly in a north easterly direction before entering the Pacific Ocean east of Nowra.

The Kangaroo River begins its journey within the Buderoo National Park, and then winds its way through untouched wilderness, rainforest and verdant farmland, until it converges with the Shoalhaven River in Tallowa Dam.

Sample Itinerary

South Coast Safaris offers a variety of day and overnight expeditions on both the Shoalhaven and Kangaroo Rivers.

Our day trips include Hampton Bridge to Bendella Reserve and Bendella Reserve to Beehive Point return.

Our overnight expeditions include Hampton Bridge to Tallowa Dam and Tallowa Dam to Fossickers Flat return. The paddle from Tallowa Dam to Fossicker’s Flat is arguably one of the most picturesque and sensually pleasing flatwater paddles in NSW.

Within about half an hour’s paddle from Tallowa Dam the full scope and beauty of the Shoalhaven Gorge becomes apparent. Cliffs of stark sheer sandstone tower from the lake, and in many places deeply honeycombed faces bear the signs of waterfall activity and age-old erosion.

We provide all necessary equipment, basic skills instruction and professional knowledge on how to keep safe while on the water.
